Robert and Billy McCormac at the Club presentation
It was with great pride that we watched Robert Brady head for new pastures as he became a Manchester United player and we were delighted to hear that he made his first appearance in January for the Man Utd U18s in a game against Liverpool.
Robbie has played with the Saints since he was 5 or 6 years of age and during that time has managed to rack up a considerable amount of trophies, awards and recognition.
He played an important part of our most successful schoolboy team that over the past four seasons at 11-a-side level have won every major trophy that it was possible to win in schoolboy football including the FAI All Ireland trophy for three seasons running.
Robbie has also had the privilege to captain his country on a number of occasions since Under 14 level as well as being on the DDSL Representative team since he was 12 years old.
Just before Christmas the Club made a special presentation to Robbie to mark his departure. His first manager and coach Billy McCormac was glowing in his praise of the way that Robbie has developed from that young child to an exceptional footballer over the years and to his commitment to the team and St Kevins in particular.
Ken Donohoe, Director of Football, was also generous in his praise of Robbie. Over the years Ken has watched as Robbie developed through the various age groups and in the domestic leagues and national cups to get to the stage he currently finds himself at with the prospect of reaching the very top of the footballing ladder.
Robbie’s departure is only the start of what will be an exciting time for St Kevins Boys. Over the past twelve months we have seen players from various age groups being invited for trials with the following clubs: Man Utd, West Brom, Liverpool, Leeds, Chelsea, Man City, Glasgow Celtic, West Ham, Portsmouth, Bolton, Fulham, Burnley, Aberdeen, Hull City, Derby County, Ipswich Town, Notts Forest, Wolves, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Plymouth Argyle and Leicester – a staggering list that shows that our players are very highly thought of throughout the professional game. We look forward to seeing more of our players realising their dreams of becoming professional footballers in the years to come.
