12's & 14's progress in SFAI Cups - 13's out.  | read this item

Of the three SKB Premier teams involved in SFAI Cup action last weekend the team favoured in most people’s eyes to advance to the semi final was our 13 Premier who faced Home Farm in Mobhi Road.  Having defeated the local enemy in two league games by an aggretate score of 9-1 already this season it seemed that even allowing for league form going out the window in Cup ties that they would progress but obviously Home Farm had other ideas.  SKB had a number of chances in the first half but failed to take them thereby allowing the home side grab the initiative from there on.  A late claim for a goal when the ball struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the line was dismissed by referee Paul Moran extra time failed to produce a winner and Home Farm held their nerve in the shoot out to win 5-4.

Our other two teams – 12’s & 14’s both had the disadvantage of having to travel to Limerick and Waterford respectively but they both put in strong disciplined performances in what were two extremely tough games.  After a shaky first half the 12’s totally dominated the second period but all they had to show for it was a strike from a free kick by Shane Elworthy ten minutes from time but it was enough to send them into the semi final of the SFAI Norton Cup next weekend away to Cherry Orchard – another extremely tough propostion.

On Sunday the 14’s got off to a blistering start away to Southend United in Waterford going 2 goal up in the first twelve minutes through Eric Kemani and an OG both goals followed good work down the right by Chippy McDonald and it remained 2-0 up to half time.  Southend came into the game very strongly early in the second half and Stephen Morris in the Saints goal had to make two extremely good saves to keep them at bay.  The introduction of Jake (Rambo)  Hyland provided an instant dividend when he scored the third within minutes of coming on and this effectively killed the game off, two further goals by Chippy McDonald and Sean Manley sealed an emphatic win and a home semi final against Lakewood F C/ Arklow Town / Lourdes Celtic.

Our first team maintain their recent run of good form when they defeated Belurgan United away on Sunday with two goals from Gareth Murphy and one from Stuart Glen.
