u12 prem (2)Our 12 & 13 Premier squads got in some much needed  game time during last weekend’s very successful trip to West Bromwich Albion F C.

On Friday evening both squads trained in the WBA dome under the direction of WBA coaches Mark O’Shea (who took the 12’s) and Aaron Danks (who took the 13’s).  Following the training session the boys crossed the road to watch WBA v Nottingham Forest in a top of the table championship clash on a very very cold night, some of the boys were captured by Sky Sports cameras during the game and were seen at home.

On Saturday morning the 12’s were first in action against WBA and in a very close game played to a very high standard they settled down well having gone a goal down early on in the game.  Richie Purdy equalized and Donal Timoney made it 2 – 1 before West Brom levelled to make it 2 – 2 at the end of the first period of play.  Goals in the second and third period from Donal Timoney again and Shane Elworthy – who was excellent throughout the game with his pace and good crossing sealed a 4 – 2 win.  It was a very good game of football with James Dunne, Thomas Tiernan and Josh Clifford showing very good quality on the ball.

The under 13’s game which followed started a bit like the 12’s with West Brom going ahead very early on until Alex O’Hanlon levelled, during this period WBA were the much better team.  In the second period SKB gained the upper hand with some very good football with pace and Jack Byrne scored a great goal from 20 yards and soon after Cian Lynch added a third.  Eoin Stokes was causing a lot of problems for the WBA defence and he was rewarded with two great finishes while another by Jack Byrne finished the game of at 7 – 1.

On Sunday the 13’s were first in action against a local team called Wiltshire Colts winning 4 – 0, the feature of this game was a splendid hat trick from Evan Shine added to one goal from Eoin Stokes capped off a great weekend for the 13’s.

The final game involved the 12’s against a very good football side Sutton Coldfield F C but they proved too strong for the home side who ran out 6 – 0 winners with two goals apiece for Philip Ward and Donal Timoney and one each from James Dunne and Josh Clifford.

It was a very good weekend and great thanks is due to Steve Hopcroft and his staff for all their work in making the weekend possible and to Mark Harrison and his coaching staff for letting us avail of their excellent facilities.
