St Kevins Boys U12 Premier Squad

Sunday the 14th of December was another milestone in the history of St Kevins Boys Football Club as the Liverpool Northern Ireland  Under 12 Academy rolled into our Shanowen Road complex.

This was the first of many games at varying underage levels that are planned as they took on our current Under 12 Premier Squad.

The Liverpool Academy Squad

The Liverpool Academy Director, Stuart Gelling was present along with a 20 man squad and their parents in what turned out to be a very entertaining game that highlighted a  lot of very technically gifted players from the North. A lot of these lads where not unknown to the Management of the Saints U12 team as they had faced some of them in the Foyle Cup during the Summer months playing for their district and local sides.

In a very entertaining game, the Saints started brightly and a stunning strike from the edge of the box from Eoin Stokes gave them the lead 10 minutes into the game.

Then the Liverpool Academy took control and showed some very good controlled passing and movement of the ball and started to push the Saints deeper and deeper. The Saints defence to their credit stood firm and restricted the Liverpool Academy to long range efforts.

The second half started with the Liverpool Academy pushing and pressing but to no avail as the Saints defended and counter attacked very well.

The game was a huge success, ending 1-0 to the Saints, and a re-match in Belfast early in the 2009 is in the pipeline as we continue to build on our recent ties with Liverpool FC. These types of games can only be of benefit to St Kevins Boys and our development.

Many thanks to the Management of both sides for an excellent display of football. And a big thanks to all involved for the hospitality shown to all the adults and children from both sides.

SKB: Aaron Myles, Jordan O’Reilly, Philip Rusk, Paul Finnegan, Ross Lee, Ryan Robinson, Jack Byrne, Eoin Stokes, Pierce Hughes, Sean Heaney, Gavin McManus, Jamie Sweeney, Naz Mellitta, Niall Doyle, Graham Hughes, Aaron Byrne, Ben Greene
